Good "practical "stuff Joe!!! Your soldering problems bring to the forefront the necessity of holding "Tech Corners" before meetings. Terry Hipskind has tried out the new way of soldering PL-259's, which would be an excellent class for all, especially us Little Pistols.

The most critical issue with my newbie antenna installation was a short in the lead in coax caused by my sloppy (and inexperienced) soldering. Dale was able to fairly quickly determine this problem with my cheap multimeter by checking the resistance on the cable. Dale explained the use of the multimeter as well as demonstrating soldering techniques.
After that he used his antenna analyser to help tune each band into acceptable tolerances. This was primarily accomplished by shortening various sections of the antenna until the resonance frequency was in the proper place in each band width. On 80 meter band the whip on the top had to be shortened several inches.
Finally a quick test of the radio showed each covered band is working.
I think I like the HUSTLER BTV5 and with what learned from Dale today it is rather easy to install.
  A special thanks to Dale.

I too am quite interested as the Hustler is on a short list of antennas I am looking at.
