[HCARC] "N" Connectors

I am told that the one and only variety of PL-259 to get is the silver plated ones from Amphenol.  If I were to use "N" Connectors on the exterior parts of the Ham Shack and up at the antennas, is there a particular brand(s) of them that are the proper ones to get???  Should the "N" connectors be solder on ones, crimp on ones or ???  Are there silver plated "N" Connectors?? I know less about "N" Connectors than PL-259's.
