I am not sure if something like this belongs on the Reflector or on the Website as a link. Advise me for next time please.
It appears from the comments by the STX Section Manager that one of the pushes from ARRL will be in getting YOUTH involved more in Ham Radio. As such there is a lot we can do, and one of the things would be to either make a presentation about Field Day to each local Boy Scout Troop with hope that they will attend Field Day as part of their activities.
"CQ CQ,
We have kicked off the New Year with the annual San Antonio Fiesta
hamfest in Schertz. This is a great event to start off the year with.
During the ARRL forum I proposed that STX dedicate this to be the year
we bring even more youngsters into the hobby. There are many ways this
can be done and two of the ways are through scouting programs or Civil
Air Patrol programs. As such I want to focus on some of the following:
Year of the Youth
. Scouting
Last year I announced a new position of Assistant Section Manager for
Scouting. This role is to focus on working with various scouting
organizations within STX and with organizers of ham events
(particularly hamfests) to include more scout friendly activities such
as Radio merit badges. The position is currently vacant, but I am
hoping to fill it soon and resume focusing on these goals.
. ASM for Youth
One of the priorities I would like to accomplish this year is also to
appoint an ASM for Youth to lead the effort to provide more youth
oriented activities at the club and hamfest level.
. ARISS
Have you ever worked on an ARISS project? Working with the kids and
watching them talk to the Space station via radio is a very rewarding
effort. I have done two now and enjoyed both events tremendously. The
ARRL newsletter recently had an article that indicated NASA was looking
to book events for this year. If you know of a school or scout group
that would like to do this, contact the league and ask to be considered
for a time slot.
CONGRATULATIONS!
