Gary:

This type of filter is designed to attenuate your ham signals above approx.
50MHz. Many hams used them to prevent TVI (television interference) to
neighbor's TVs, especially if you lived in an area with a TV channel 2 (in
the USA 54-60 MHz, just above the 6m ham band) as I did when I lived in
Atlanta. Harmonics of several ham bands fall into this and other USA TV
channels, so these filters were useful for minimizing interference.

I have a similar filter (similar specs, different manufacturer) that I
haven't used in years because it's been many years since I lived in an area
that had a TV channel 2 and I've been lucky that I never had problems with
harmonics affecting my neighbors' TVs. Anecdotally, digital TV broadcasting
and receivers seem to be less affected by ham signals, although this may be
a byproduct of so many people who now use cable or satellite receivers to
receive TV, rather than getting it directly over the air.

Don, W4WJ, worked in TV broadcasting for many years and can probably advise
you better than me on whether this type of filter still has a place in the
RFI fighting arsenal.

Dale - K4DG

What is a "Nye Viking Low Pass Filter" used for?? Saw one on Ebay while
looking at one of the Nye Viking Tuners and it got me to wondering.
