This is what I think I want to invest in for my rig.
This email is from Chuck Brainard who previously sold coax for a living while employed by Times Microwave Systems.
I bought Andrew CNT-400, I got it from DXEngineering and it was lower cost. If it were not labled, you couldn't tell the difference between it and LMR400, and DXE shipped it for free. The Times plant that makes LMR400 is a union shop in high priced CT and all that comes out of it tends to be a bit higher priced than a competitor's identical product, I battled that for years. Com-Scope now owns Andrew who makes the CNT400, for all I know it may be made in their NC plant. And, of course, buying from DXE in OH freed me from the TX 8.25% sales tax. Overall, it's the lowest loss coax for its size available, and DXE had the lowest cost.
ANY coax made with a multi-strand conductor will have greater loss than a similar coax with a solid conductor. The UF also costs more because the 19 strand conductor is all copper where the single conductor is copper clad aluminum. CC Al is also the standard of the CATV business and as long as you don't slice thru the copper, it's a great low-cost product. Care is required!
Chuck.
