[HCARC] 2 Meter Emergency Frequency

Those two frequencies date back to at least the 60's when FM was becomming
popular. I believe that they were called "national calling an emergency
frequencies" with no real emphasis on "emergency". You will find that the
early 2m FM XCVR's came with Xtals for 146.52 simplex, .34/.94, and .34/.76.
The last two were almost always the first repeater in every area that had a
repeater. And of course, none of them had sub-audible tones. Ah, for
simpler times. Since I never was on 440 FM I don't know the frequencies as
well, but early 440 FM rigs also usually came equipped with XTAL's for the
calling frequency and the first repeater pair that was in common use.

Kind of makes you wonder why we need so many FM simplex and repeater
channels now, doesn't it!
