To All-
I’ve had a lot of good feedback from members regarding frequencies in addition to 10 meters that we may want to try for more reliable communications to include a greater number of participants. In addition, a proposal to change the day and time of the HF net/ Rag Chew has also been received.
The consensus thus far is that 40 or 80 meters will likely be the best band. To base a final recommendation on empirical test information I’d like to perform the following test next Wednesday evening beginning at 7 pm. If we can’t obtain a more reliable band for communications on Wednesday evening, we’ll need to consider another day and time.
7:00 to 7:05 – 21.422 Mhz (If busy with another QSO, listen up)
7:05 to 7:10 – 14.333 Mhz (If busy with another QSO, listen up)
7:10 to 7:15 – Need suggested frequency for 40 meters
7:15 to 7:20 – Need suggested frequency for 80 meters
What I propose is that I get on frequency and simply ask for check-ins from anyone in the club who can hear me. I’ll make a list of who I can hear without the use of relays. Since I’ll be speaking the most I encourage members to simply copy down my signal strength. I think if we keep it simple we should be able to run through the bands according to the schedule. If you don’t hear me on the frequency listed during the corresponding time period, you’ll know we don’t have propagation on that particular frequency.
While 40 or 80 may end up being the best choice I’d like to simply run through 15 and 20 meters anyway while we’re conducting the test, it will only take an extra 10 minutes. We might be surprised with the results.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback, interest and opinions.
