To All-
Just curious if anyone knows why working on a laptop computer about 5 feet from my 2 meter receiving antenna, causes the squelch to open on a two meter rig. It appears to happen when I refresh a webpage. When the squelch is open, moving the computer screen pointer with the touch pad causes a corresponding noise in the rig audio. After a time of no computer activity the squelch closes.
I think the router operates in the GHz range so I’m not sure why the squelch is opening. The computer processor speed is 2.3 GHz which is also quite high. I’m wondering if it has to do with the video display and the speed at which it runs. To open the squelch I would think something in the computer is running around 150 MHz or some lower fundamental frequency causing the interference to be a harmonic but I don’t know what it is. If anyone has a clue I’d be curious to know the reason.
Anyway, while I was composing this email I received an email alert and it caused the squelch to open as well.
