[HCARC] Vertical Antenna Guy Lines

Gary:

I don't know your specific situation, but in many yards where people walk
and mow, etc. guy wires that come down to ground get in the way and can be
dangerous if people trip over them.

An approach I have seen at many big stations is the use of buried heavy
pipes (oil well pipe for example) going up about 6 or 7 feet. The guys are
attached at the top, keeping them well above people's heads. Of course, if
you are on a cattle ranch, as I am, the pipes have to up farther to keep the
guys away from cows. I assume that Gale does not have this problem because I
believe that all of his guys are inside his fence, so the cows can't get
near them.

Each pipe should be buried in the earth about 2 to 3 feet, depending on you
individual soil conditions. Where Gale and I live, it's rock right on the
surface. So, you need to drill and then fill the hole with concrete. But,
you don't have to go as deep because the rock provides a good solid base. In
soft, sandy soil, it's a different story.

I hope this helps.
