As soon as I get more details confirmed, I will forward that news to the
club.
But, in the meantime, here is what I'm hearing in San Antonio along this
subject line...
. Altex Electronics in San Antonio has told the AARO Ham club they
intend to "ramp up their amateur radio supplies in first quarter 2013". (at
their IH-35 store, northbound between Weidner Rd & O'Connor Rd) To that
extent, Altex has donated 3 $50 gift certificates to the AARO Ham club to be
used as door prizes at next month's Christmas Party, in exchange for
advertising to be ran in the club's monthly newsletter (January-March).
Word is that they are approaching major vendors, such as MFJ, to establish a
vendor relationship with them and begin stocking inventory.
. Gary Stock WF5Y (www.Grumpyshop.net) has told me he plans to open a
small retail storefront in San Antonio, likely on the NE side since he lives
near the airport, to become a ham radio store. Not sure how far along he is
with his plans, but he was pretty adamant about it last month with I spoke
with him.
. Mark Lacey W5TRX (http://www.w5txrlabs.com) in New Braunfels (just
off Loop 337 & IH-35 on south end of New Braunfels) is a dealer for Alinco
Radios, KPC-3 TNC's, his own line of EchoLink and IRLP interfaces, and other
stuff. His hours are erratic and I recommend calling ahead. It's a one man
operation and he had major health issues (as in hospitalized / surgery)
about 5-6 months ago.
PS: The Tour de Cure 2013 will be on May 11, 2013, but the route will NOT
return to Kerrville. While the ADA staff praised the ham radio operators
overall, the riders complained about the hills and the chip seal on too many
roads without shoulders. So... back to the Northeast part of San Antonio,
starting / ending at the Retama Park horse racing stadium (IH-35 / Loop 1604
- Selma). Route going north to Canyon Lake and the longer route loops over
toward Seguin.
