Gary...

Reference the AC4CA antenna... the wires could certainly be replaced with
those aluminum tubes.

With spacing between the elements of course. You would "trim" the antenna
by cutting the tubing to resonance.

A bit of work, but it could be done!

I have the ON4UN book and have read it more than once, but I guess I need
to go back and re-read the parts on antenna arrays. There is always so
much to learn and an idle mind is the devils ........

What got me to thinking about vertical antennas being close to each other
and sharing part or all of an arrays of wire on the ground was the talk at
last meeting about the wire antenna "array" and its counterpoise. Not
having numerous towers or tall trees to string wire from to hold the upper part
of a wire antenna, I was just wondering if more than one vertical could
act like that antenna set up. I can get interlocking aluminum 4 foot ( 1 3/4
inch diameter) mast sections off of Ebay for about $53 for a dozen
sections. A couple of loads of these sections should build a number of antennas
in the 30/20/15/10 meter range. Again, I am not sure what the larger
diameter does exactly and whether these could actually be used, but it would be
fun to see. The antennas could even be raised higher off of the ground
using the same kind of pole sections that are made from fiberglass. Then a
raised counterpoise might be able to be used too.

Gary...

In the ON4UN Low-Band Dxing Book, available from the ARRL, there is a very
complete
chapter on Vertical Arrays. Good reading, with examples of different
types of antennas in this
category.

Gary,

I've been able to get antenna data on AM broadcast stations from the FCC
web site. The last time I visited, it was _http://www.fcc.gov_
(http://www.fcc.gov/) and once I got there i went to the "audio Division" and there was
a place for AM query. The site did provide antenna patterns for the AM
stations and provided data on the feed scheme used to generate those patterns.

One place I've found info on VLF through MF ground systems is "Antenna
Engineering Handbook" edited by Jasik, Henry, 1961. Chapter 19 shows a couple
of the VLF ground systems including an AF VLF antenna at Marion, Mass
built by RCA Communications. Chapter 20 has a typical ground system for a two
element directional antenna.

The FCC site is easy to find, the old Jasik book is a challenge. I'm sure
there are others.

Kerry
