To All-
Thanks to Bob Richie for clarifying that we won’t be in conflict with a Red Cross meeting and verifying our scheduled utilization of Classroom B (Large meeting room where we have our club meetings) this coming Saturday.
I’ll be at the Red Cross Building from 11:30 am until 5 pm Saturday, February 4th to participate in the 10 meter 10-10 contest. If there’s interest by those present, we can reconvene on Sunday as well. The contest begins at 0001 UTC Saturday and ends 2359 on Sunday, essentially a 48 hour period.
Since we’ll be utilizing computer logging this year for Field Day via N1MM Contesting Software, I thought we might want to get some operating and logging practice in during the 10 meter 10-10 SSB Contest. If you haven’t participated or observed previous contest practice sessions you may want to join me and past participates are certainly welcome. You may come and go as you please but may need to call my cell phone, 281-844-8897, or utilize the repeater (146.98) to gain access if the time is other than 11:30 am.
If there are new participants, before jumping into the contest I’ll spend a few minutes discussing how to download, update, configure and set up a log in the free N1MM contesting software. After answering questions regarding N1MM I’ll talk about the contesting website I utilize, (SM3CER), to determine in which contest I may want to participate. In addition, I’ll highlight how to search the rules for simple relevant information required to participate in a contest.
The intent is to provide a low stress environment to allow everyone an opportunity to obtain hands on experience operating and logging. These are the skills we can put to use on Field Day this coming June. We plan to shift positions every 30 minutes or so to allow anyone who wants to participate to do so.
A license isn’t required to simply log contacts on the computer so want-a-be hams or those potential Techs taking their test on Saturday are welcome to stay and log.
Thanks to all for your interest and see you on Saturday.
