TEN METER NET

Recently, I offered to meet Club Members at the Club Station to participate in a RTTY contest, thus providing Club Members the opportunity to get on the air and operate. Instead of operating, we found ourselves talking about equipment, modes of operation, antennas and whatever questions were on the minds of the Club Members for nearly 2 1/2 hours.

As a result of our discussions, it occurred to me that new hams or hams who haven't ventured onto the HF bands, may desire an opportunity to get on the air with local hams for a rag chewing session.

Since Technicians, along with all other licensed hams, can operate on 10 meters and 10 meters is often closed down to skip by 7 pm it seemed to be a logical choice for a local rag chewing net.

I sent out a message on the Club Reflector regarding a 10 meter propagation test and we had a good response of active Club Members along with interesting ensuing discussions on the Club Reflector.

At the recent Club Meeting I proposed we meet Wednesday Nights at 7 pm local time on 28.365 MHz for a rag chewing session. We had discussions as to how to help hams without HF stations obtain operating time. Discussions included Club Members offering to open up their stations to non-HF station members.

At the break, a Technician approached me who was interested in participating but doesn't have a ten meter rig. As a result, I checked with The American Red Cross and scheduled Classroom B from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday evenings to allow us to utilize the Club Station for members who don't have an HF station to get on the air and obtain some experience.

So, if there are any Club Members with any class licenses who are interested in operating on Wednesday nights, please join me around 6:45 pm at The American Red Cross building.

The intent is to provide a low stress environment and allow Club Members to experience the HF portion of Ham Radio.
