Thanks to John H., AC4CA, for the to inspiration to cobble together connections from my new computer to my old FT-101e (My FT-857D is in the shop following a lightning hit that found its way into my ethernet cable). He told me about a JARTS WW RTTY Contest this weekend.

Anyway, loading and configuring software took the most time and effort but I was able to get everything up and running for yesterday when 10 meters opened up. Contesting reminds me of deep sea fishing, you’re likely to catch something but not quite sure what it will be.

VU2NKS, India, was calling CQ and we had no problem connecting. I uploaded my contest files to Logbook of the World and found a confirmed QSL this morning. I think LoTW is pretty neat and a very cost effective method of obtaining confirmed QSLs for ARRL awards.

If anyone is interested in running RTTY or contesting, let me know and I’ll help you get set up. A digital controller such as Signalink USB (Now on order) is a good way to go.
