I haven't looked at HBR stuff in a long time. A better bet for you might be a Mallory Inductuner from Fair Radio Sales. These were widely used for HF VFOs by strapping all 3 sections together. If you use the search term air variable capacitor in Google you will find a bunch of the size you are seeking.

Took a look and did not see a 3 to 25 pf 3 section capacitor typically used on HBR's. Is there a link somewhere on the site for these ?

Find yourself a Jackson Bros (English firm) 5:1 drive for easier tuning

Hi all.
I'm Ed, AE7TE, and I'm interested in building an HBR.
One of the issues I foresee is getting the capacitors. Namely, the
three-section tuning cap. I have thought of building a trombone
capacitor made of brass tubing and a screw mechanism. I'd have to come
up with a way to link it to a tuning shaft - if I used a 2 inch travel
actuated by an 8-32 threaded rod, that would mean 64 turns for full
meshing. It could be possible to reduce it to 8 turns with clever
mechanical arrangement.
I'd also have to make my own IFTs. That's not hard, but needs care.
