Concerning the brown plug in coil forms (made by Hammarlund, Bud,
National, Millen etc.) I discussed their use but also found a suitable
PVC sub that is the correct dimensions for winding the original coils.
The "brown coil forms" are slightly larger but if you provide a large
enough hole for the tap which provides "wiggle room" frequency
adjustments can easily be made. Overall the brown coil forms are
rugged and easy to use. The main disadvantage in your case looking at
your chassis photo of your HBR-16 is that the L3 oscillator coil may
not fit in your receiver due to the slightly larger diameter of the
brown coil form and you may have to move the tube socket aft. Another
problem when using the brown forms is that they are not long enough
for winding 160 meter coils so you are forced to fabricate a coil form.
