[HBR] Super Gainer and RAL

Hello Martin,

~ I use a regen as my station receiver, but it's solid-state. (It's one of
the Novice Station designs from ARRL, see
http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php/topic,90273.0.html.)

I've been looking at regen designs for some time, mostly because I have a
friend that is a nut for them, and who keeps insisting that a regen is all I
need. He, however, is an SWL, and doesn't have to try to separate a weak
signal from a strong one that wants to take over.

I'm a confirmed "glowbugger" as all of my ham activity was back in the
1950's, and this hobby is all about nostalgia anyway (;->)...So, I'm looking
at tube based designs.

None of the designs that I have found so far have seemed to address the
problems of overloading and pulling to a strong signal when trying to tune a
weak one. I think that one reason the RAL seems to do well under those
conditions is that it has those two RF sections with their tuned circuits
giving some up-front selectivity. I dunno--just speculating. Anyway, it's a
fascinating topic.

If anyone comes across any information on the subject, I would sure
appreciate hearing about it.

Cheers,

Brian
