[HBR] Coil Q and the Boonton 260

Hello Dan,

I have a small budget for buying myself a Christmas present---ham related,
of course! The Boonton 260 has looked keen, and Kees even has some
instructions posted on refurbishing one. Would you say it's worth having on
the test bench of a receiver building enthusiast? I recall on the glowbugs
list there being some discussion about the difficulty of finding/repairing
the thermocouple.

~ My guess is that the small dissipation factor of PVC will not affect the Q
enough to measure.

I'll bet that it can be measured, but that it's small enough that only a
perfectionistic nut case like myself would care about it.

My article of faith about making things is that the difference between good
and excellent is about 5 percent. If you run around picking up 1 percents
here and there, you can come up with an end product that is a real thrill to
use, instead of being just pleasing. At least that makes a good excuse for
the ridiculous lengths that I'm willing go to (;->)...

Cheers,

Brian
