I believe most Loctals were in auto radios.
It could be some portables too, but I don't remember
any right now. If I understood your question correctly,
they snapped into place, and the giggling and jerking
did not cause the tubes to work their way out of the
sockets. The snapping caused them to stay seated
properly, yet with a slight tug you could pull them our
to test or swap out tubes. The socked I think had a
little snap ring that fit snuggly around the center pin,
and the tubes male pin had a little indentation ring so
when placed in the socket, the snap ring would help
hold the tube in place...
I bet your radios were bought new or made sometime
in the transisioning (SP) period from Octals to Mini or
something like that.
