The diode ring mixer is an example of a "Doubly balanced" mixer.
I think in old ARRL Handbooks and especially "SSB handbooks" you can find examples of quad diode tubes being put to use as DBM's. The transformer winding details should prove useful.

Subject: [HBR] Pullen vs diode ring mixers
Hello All,
A fellow over on the funwithtubes list mentioned the 6JU8 quad diode as a
candidate for a diode ring mixer, and being a confirmed glowbugger, the idea
"tickled my whiskers". Is there any received wisdom in the group on the
relative merits of the Pullen versus the diode ring mixer?
An ancillary question: I ran across a mention of the "double balanced"
mixer, but not much info. That's another interesting idea, as it seems to
afford some useful cancellation of unwanted output frequencies.
Any comments or links to more information greatly appreciated (:->).
Cheers,
