GM to the list and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

I'm new to this reflector but have spent some time in the archives "catching up" on tales of the HBR.

I recently acquired an HBR-16 with one set of coils for 40m. This particular set was built w/o an on-board power supply and doesn't have a calibrator. (I'll be using an external supply and will add the calibrator circuit later)

The chassis is a work of art and I didn't have the heart to cannibalize the rig and start from the beginning. So, I've re-worked the existing chassis and made component upgrades where needed. At this juncture, the rig is working nicely on 40m. I still have a new front panel to fabricate for the Eddystone dial and an S-meter.

I'd like to add at least 80m and 20m (in that order) but alas, no coil forms. At least not the American Phenolic 24-5p originals. I'm guessing these are pretty much un-obtainable but I need to ask. If anyone has any, even one, I'd be interested in purchasing them. I have the APC caps so I only need serviceable coil forms.

I'm aware of the use of PVC and even pill bottles so I know there is an "out" if I cannot find some originals.

I do have a question of the group. I have four BUD forms, the ribbed type with 5 pins. And they measure the requisite 1.25" diameter. However, I'm not sure just how well these work when compared to the 24-5p ones. I used the microwave oven for 5 seconds to see if they heated up. Well, not as much as some older 1920's forms but more than the clear plastic. So, I'd expect a somewhat higher Q with the clear ones versus any others. Am I off-base on this?? I'd sure appreciate any comments. If anyone has experience with the BUD ribbed forms in an HBR please let me know your thoughts/experiences.

Thanks, All, for the BW and for reading this over.

Best to all in the New Year.
