[HBR] New HRR 16 Owner and intro

Thanks for the layout photos and the coil diagram photo. This is a very nicely constructed version and continues my desire to get my version past the troubleshooting stage. The problem now is a non-oscillating HF oscillator. I still can't tell if it is a wiring issue or a coil winding issue. I thought I had the problem solved when I found a less than optimal soldering job on one of the coil pins but that wasn't the final answer.

Hello one and all. I think that I should do an intro to the group. I've been
a ham since about 1960 and was very active for many years, but in the past
several years I haven't been. There are many reasons, mostly age and my
wife's health. I'm more of a caregiver the past few years.

I use to do a lot of home brewing from transmitter to antennas.. I spent
over twenty years in the broadcast world as manager of transmitter
operations for the South Carolina Education Television Network. The PBS
system for SC. So I got to play with the big transmitters, up to 5 MW and
big antennas ... antenna's and transmitters were always fun to work with.

In my later years of hamming I was real active in the VHF and UHF and some
microwave frequencies and doing a lot of ATV work and worked up a special
antenna for ATV repeaters that got me a nice award from the Dayton Ham
convention in 1992 for my work on the antenna.

I've always wanted to build one of the HBR receivers but never got around to
it. I think trying to locate  all of the parts and also back then the money
was real short to a new family with a couple of kids. So I never made it,
but it always stuck back in the old brain cells about what I missed out on.

About 15 years ago at one of our local ham club meeting there was someone
getting rid of a lot of his gear and this receive was there. I missed out on
getting it but told the new owner to let me have first offer if he ever
decided to get rid of it, so that time came about a month ago.. But I did
have to pay a premium price to get it. But the construction was so
impressive that it made it all worth while. I have a lot of information on
the HBR receivers that I've collected over the many years of wanting one.

The receiver was built by K8KEG (SK) in the early 1960 and from the pictures
in the attachment you'll see some of the excellent workmanship that he did.
I'm not sure how it came to be in the Columbia, SC area for the past 15 to
25 years, but I hope that it's found a home for a while. At my age, 75, I'm
not sure how long that'll be. I'll be looking at all of the good information
that on the HBR web page over the next several weeks to try and catch up on
the HBR's.
