Yeah I know what you mean about the difficulty trying to figure out which HBR to build. I vacillated between the 16, 11, 12, 13, flip flopping all over the place. At first I thought about doing the 16 because it might be easier for me to wire. I've never built anything this complicated. Since then I decided on the HBR-12 based on my own gut feel and comments from others including Ted Crosby. I came across a comment in one of the Stewart or Crosby articles where Ted was answering this question of which receiver was the better one to build. He response was that the HBR-11 was superior to the HBR-16 and he would recommend building the 11.
Ultimately I want to build an HBR-13 but I think I'm going to need some construction experience before tacking that complicated of of a receiver, so I decided on the HBR-12. I have most of the parts now . I recently acquired a Byers Chassis Kit for the main and sub chassis (for the Eddystone dial version), and just need to buy some small boxes for the BFO and HF oscillator. My HBR project will probably not start until Fall. I'm just at the tail end of a major radio sell off where I've sold 70% of my stuff. That has taken up all of my radio time this past year.
