This is the capacitor found in the Heathkit HR-10 with the exception that
the latter has a 3/8" diameter shaft that's a couple of inches long.
Complete HR-10's go for $25-$75 plus shipping of around $30 on eBay. May
be much cheaper if found at a hamfest. Everything major that you need for an
HBR design is in the HR-10 except the plug-in coils, front panel, and
cabinet. The chassis can be used, the dial mechanism (string drive) works
fine -- much better than the original National dials but not the equal of an
Eddystone 898. The front panel can be used as a template for laying out
your own (slightly larger) panel; a new one is needed because some holes
need to be moved in order to make room for the plug in coils.
Sockets are sometimes usable but sometimes not.
I have built that receiver; it's a fraction of the job of finding and
fitting together all the parts by ones and two's. Of course the parts
finding/fitting can be part of the fun ...
