[HBR] options for the 2nd oscillator

It is beginning to appear that a 1650, 1685 or 1700 KHz crystal that can take the voltages present in vacuum tube oscillators is not going to be found. The simplest circuit in the HBR-16 is the 6C4 plus crystal equals the 2nd oscillator. Does anybody have any suggestions for a possible solid state replacement? Is there some type of PLL or digitally synthesized circuit that would have the equivalent stability of a crystal oscillator? Alternatively, is there a traditional Hartley, Pierce or Colpitts type oscillator without a crystal that would be stable enough to lock onto one of these frequencies?
