[HBR] Suggestion for HBR-13 Cabinet

Hi Lorne, Thanks very much for your advice on the cabinet.  At first I was thinking that it had to be metal but after noodling on it and recognizing that the metal cabinet isn't shielding anything internally, your wood cabinet advice made more sense.  A wood cabinet can be built around what size chassis I end up with as opposed to a metal cabinet where the chassis has to be fit into it.  While I have no woodworking skills, my brother-in-law is a woodworking master so I can get a cabinet made by him.

I have located three NOS 85 KC IF transformers, the dials, and I have the 3 section variable capacitor, so I'm close to having the really difficult parts.  I have bought both a National dial and NPW gearbox, plus a NOS Eddystone slide rule dial.  I'm thinking of keeping the Eddystone on standby for a future 13C project for when I acquire some radio building skills.  I may lead off with the HRO dial.

I am still struggling with over the decision of which HBR model to build.  If I were skilled in radio construction I would jump on the HBR-13C, but I am not.  This will be my first complicated radio beyond my 1929 transmitters and simple regen receivers.  I think the HBR-16 is simple and straightforward for a newbie.  I've read where Ted Crosby was most proud of the HBR-11 with its performance and simplicity.  So I'm leaning towards the 16 or 11.

Thanks for your advice here!

Scott, if you are handy with wood, you might consider pine shelving material
available at the local hardware store.
I built one  for a ZL2JJ  regen set. I hinged part of the top to facilitate
coil changing. I recessed the front top, sides and bottom for the front
panel,  Looked decent and worked well.
Just a thought.
