[HBR] Need feedback: HBR-8

I can say that if I was starting from scratch and with what I know now, I would start with the HBR-13C design. I built one many years ago and it worked well. It had all the functionality of receievers at that time (1960's) and while more parts and work that an HBR-8, it provides more and better functionality.

That all said, I am modifying my current HBR to use a Pullen Mixer and a 6GM6 RF Amplifier. I also want to add additional IF transformers for a tighter bandpass along with either a T-notch or Q multiplier.

Important thing for an HBR is the chassis and tuning mechanism stiffness. The VFO in these radios is a simple open loop Hartley that can drift with temp and can change freq. if the chassis has flexture. Make the chassis stiff !

Good Luck on whatever you decide and have fun !

Hey Cal
I've not done so, but am planning on going through all the
iterations of the HBR XX I've got the downloads and the CD all in
one file right now, and am either deleting or for the most part
printing out articles etc as I go, and find it a bit confusing at the
moment, What seems to me to be version 8 is not the same setup as
say version 11 or 13 so until I get things straight in my mind I'm a
little confused : ) But I'm sure one of these articles will start
making sense to me : )

I think the main problem is me, as I was thinking of making a
version 13 chassis, and then building the 8 and only modifying it as
I go, but maybe I'll have to build several chassis. thought I'd
throw that out here, in case you knew the answers or someone else
might pipe up : )
