[HBR] Need help: extending the "preselector input tuning range" of the 1953 ARRL 4 tube superhet

I hope this is not too far off topic but I am in the process of gathering
the parts for the 1953 ARRL Handbook 4 tube rx.

The current input tuning capability as designed is ranged from 3.5-8 Mcs. I
would like to extend the range to include 10.2 Mcs for WWV and 30 meter CW.
 Removing or changing the padding capacitor should be easy on the VFO.

However, I do not know if the dual Hammarlund 140 pf can be changed to cover
the   tuning range to extend to the 30 meter band.  I was thinking about
change the duals to 100 pf per section and adding a switch to pad for lower
freqs.  Any suggestions? Has anyone encountered this problem before? Thanks.
