Hey Cal I think we are comparing apples with oranges. There are of
course receiver like the long wave club uses in QRSSS and other
digital goodies, and the list could go on and on. The goal with the
HBR receiver is to have a great receiver, but hate to say this it is
a great receiver that is dated... Sure it can compare with many
modern day rigs, depending on how we build the thing, but we have to
admit technology has gone a long way sense the 50s-70s... When we
get done with our receivers, we will have something to be proud of,
and something that fits our particular bill of wants and needs, but
the average joe will not be too interested in it other then the few
wells and ahhs and wonderment's, but they will go back to the rice
box and have maybe a computer do a lot of fun things for them, and
you will probably go back to your rig and try to pull out another
weak one with your skills you've learned over the years. There is a
lot to say about the HBR series, but it is a focused rig with a
focused group with a focused end result.
It's going to take me a while to build this thing, but I am already
thinking of some kind of matching transmitter. I have a couple of
those dow key type goodies that came out of the old motracs, and am
thinking of a way to incorporate those for a sort of automatic
antenna change over system : ) See, still lots of fun, and your
accomplishment will run circles around the rice box users... But
only in specific tastes goals and such. Why even my studies in the
last couple of months have made my time on this subject well worth
the efforts, learning something new almost all the time. forget
three things learn four : ) This experience alone is worth a mint...
