Gents and Ladies, (I wouldn't want to leave anyone out!)
It is sort of like having an Amp Supply LK-500ZB. You have to remove
the cabinet top to adjust the "input" coils to match a 50 or 75 ohm
radio into a known dummy load like an oil filled Bird.
Once that cover is off - you have 3KV VERY "easily" gotten into by
accident! The input circuitry is on the left of the chassis, the PA
parasitic suppressors and plate caps are on the right.
I'm right handed to boot! I have to shove the LEFT hand into my pocket,
and try to REACH *OVER* the exposed 3KV to use an INSULATED alignment
tool to tweak each and every band!
Fortunately, I've only done this once! I NEVER want to do so again!
I have ZERO confidence in Plexiglass, Perspex, or Delrin. I haven't
even tried HMWPE (The high molecular weight material based in
polyethylene. Not for 3KV!
I got bit at age 25 by 13.8KV even AFTER all safety checks, precautions,
and procedures had been followed and double checked by my partner. The
stupid circuit was having the voltage "induced" by either the PT
circuit, (Voltage transformer), OR by the CT circuit, (Current
transformer). I got my butt tossed about 30 feet. I was okay, just
VERY unhappy! I remained in the sitting position where I landed, and
my partner went and got me a beer after checking me over, and closing
the switchgear cabinet.
Being careful is only ONE facet in the entire equation of *SAFETY* when
dealing with High Voltage!
