What a great project!

I think this mirrors the experience of many folks who have been down
the 'rebuild in place' road. There's more to it than meets the eye,
especially when you start recognizing and trying to fix design flaws
in the original.
Neither of my two attempts to build a vacuum tube receiver from an
FT-101 junker succeeded, although there was much that did work. I
will revisit these projects in the future.
In fairness, one of them succumbed to dog urine. So that's not truly
a design flaw.
