[HBR] HBR-11 1N54 AGC Diode Modification question?

Hello all!

I am interested in implementing the 1N54 AGC diode
modification that allows
one to use 1/2 of the 12AT7A
tube as an AM detector diode.

The modification
instructions suggest a 1N54 germanium diode "with high back
resistance".

I have many 1N34A germanium diodes.  Do
you suppose that these would work as well?
