I have found that some of the string dials from old AM/FM tuners are pretty  
decent, two days of playing with 6 different ones and my favorite so far is  
the Kenwood KT-5500, Backlit, has S meter and tuning meter already  
incorperated, slide rule type dial with a cord driven main tuning cap. 3  
half inch direction changing pulleys, 10:1 tuning ratio using the cap that  
is already in the unit, and it tunes very smoothly.
