That solves half the problem. The other half is that the wires on the top coil
of the ARC-5 transformers will break after being moved a dozen times or so.
If you want to persue this route, you'll have to replace the leads inside the
transformers with some tinsel leads that will survive the frequent movement.
Since the upper coils will be firmly anchored by your rack-and-pinion
assembies, I'm not sure you'll need to replace the rods with brass. I think the
fiber rods would survive if you remove the friction dogs that hold them in
place.
