That's it.  You need coupling from the cathode circuit to the grid
circuit, and separate transformers done this way, won't give it to
you.

Try hooking the two voice coil windings to each other.  If it doesn't
work the first time, try reversing the connections.  No guarantees --
you don't get a heck of a lot of coupling this way -- but it might
work.
