One source is that watery auction place. Often a collection of 
"variable capacitors" will show up at reeasonable prices.

Be aware that:

1) For oscillator use, you want to use only "brass plate" APCs. (the 
plates are plated, but are brass underneath).

2) Aluminum-plate APC equivalents are OK for the mixer and RF coils

3) If you have a small saw, (coping saw with fine blade is good) a 
vise, and are very careful, you can cut down larger capacitors to the 
needed sizes.
