[HBR] Projects

To the list:

Like a lot of you, I too have an HBR project in the queu.
Some time ago I was sent a big box with a pile of parts for an HBR-13 that
an elder ham in CA area had started but was unable to finish. He is since an
SK.
I went through the list, and established: 1. That the chassis he worked up
needed to be redone, so I cut the top out and bolted a new blank to the
remainer; 2. That one of the 1700 kc Miller IFTs (#1730) was missing, so I
took a comparable 455 kc unit and took turns off until it resonated around
1700. Hopefully it will work. 3. No power supply components, but not a
problem, as I have an external supply that should work fine.

Other than that, the parts are there, and I have the paper work. Now all I
have to do is put it together.

One point: I have picked up several of the HBRs at hamfests over the years,
and even two from an estate, (all different, and all showing builder mods
from the original layouts), and the universal problem seems to be a shortage
or complete lack of the plug-in coils. Means I have to wind my own...again.
So I keep looking for the forms, and I do have some.

So it appears that I have enough HBR work for some time!

I'm building WA2EUJ's TAK-40 that's in the May QST.

A $50 SSB&CW transceiver.

I think it'll be the "HBR of the 21st century". Others will disagree but
that's OK :-).
