[HBR] Projects

I started out (months ago) intending to build a copy of an hbr [16], but available parts (or lack thereof) soon took me in a slightly different direction. The only suitable dial assembly that I've been able to procure is that from an old RME-45 (along with front panel and case). I've also made changes to the audio and IF sections, again due to parts availability... The power supply and AF sections as well as the RF and IF sections are mostly designed, and partly built. Layout has been a bit of a challenge, as well as mounting the RME-45's dial/main tuning cap. It is recessed in the chassis and requires some fairly precise measurements to get it right... Other than that, it's well under way. ;)

Since I like the convenience of band switching with the flip of a switch and not plug/unplug, this aspect will be different as well. It's also largely dictated by the fact that I have a reasonable supply of NOS wafer switches and almost no coil forms...

Early on, I had decided to build a triple conversion with the first IF just shy of 10Mhz. Aspects of this receiver are borrowed from the hbr, DCS-500 and others so perhaps it's not a total departure...?

Almost no chance whatsoever of using a 7360 in any of the mixer stages, but thanks to the suggestion of someone here the one by Dr Pullen will be...if I can wrap my brain around his paper on the subject, and learn the secrets of proper design/implementation.

Something I'm constantly challenged/frustrated by (and perhaps many others here are too), is that of finding that one bias resistor of particular size and wattage or the coupling cap without placing another small parts order to Mouser...(?) Looking for items on that "watery auction site" can only take one just so far...

So that's what I've been working on. The 'Frankenstein' receiver that (I hope) will cause me to one day exclaim: "IT'S ALIVE!!!". Preferably without all the uncontrolled electrical discharge phenomenon of the movies... ;)

It's been awful quite lately. Does anyone have any projects going?
