Hi Eddy,
Have you verified that there are zero volts present when the meter
show 2k? Have you also verified there are 2.5k present when the meter
shows 2.5? I assume you have verified those and that your meter is
probably toast. If there is a zero adjust on your meter it 'might' get
you there. I'm sure you would have already tried that. I recently
disassenbled a meter with a similar problem. The zero adjust had been
damaged and I repaired that. My meter was off by the same amount when
current was applied as the zero offset...almost 20 per cent.
I'm happy to note that momentary short did not involve you more directly.
