I can't comment as to the AES forms, but I've been rolling my own
by starting with 5-pin bases from bad 807's and epoxying glass epoxy
tubes for coil-winding to them. Sturdy as hell, and the glass
epoxy stands up way way better to soldering and machining 
than the polystyrene ever did.

I actually despise the old polystyrene forms. I melted way too many
of them when I was a kid.
