The capacitors you described are low cost axial lead ceramic types. They
were probably made by Quality Components of St. Marys, PA. You would often find
one in the convertor of an AA5. I have used them in UHF transmitter circuits
up to a watt at 400 MHz. They came in values as low as 0.1 pF. The largest I
ever saw was something like 22 pF. Don't know whether they are still made.
