Thanks -- I didn't know about McMaster-Carr.

I suspect that's like Homer Simpson admitting he doesn't know about beer 
... DOH!

The current switch is assembled with rods, threaded M3x0.5 at the ends. 
  It didn't occur to me (though it should have) that I could probably 
buy threaded rods like that and cut them to the desired length.

Right now the stupid project is tripping the GFCI receptical every time 
I turn it on.  SOMEWHERE in the dozen or two bypass caps on the series 
filament line I suspect there is one that has gone a bit leaky.  In 
theory this is easy to find ... Pulling the hottest tube stops it but 
not the one at the very end so I should just go down the line pulling 
tubes in turn ... right?
