Hello-
Perhaps someone has gone a little further into this than me . I am
preparing some Miller 612-series IF transformers for a project, the units
are used and need cleaning plus new wires. While I had them out of the cans
I spent some time trying to learn the particulars of their construction,
such as the difference in coil spacing between the input IF {612-C1} and
output IF { 612-C4}. These are the iron core units which brings me to the
heart of my question : The IF coils are wound on a form that has a cap glued
on the end. So, I assume there are two iron powder cores secured inside the
form? The transformers are tuned with compression trimmers and any iron core
would have to be fixed inside the form. One of the used transformers had the
end cap missing from the form and it was empty inside. The windings measured
less inductance { 1.6 mH. versus 1.9 mH}on the hollow form. I hate to desroy
a good unit just to learn. Has anyone ever played around with these
particular transformers? Thanks, Byron.
