Subject: HRB question
Message-ID: <20060622.171500.-761687.2.lemerson at juno.com>
Hi Guys,
Somehow or other I ran across the BoatAnchor group and recently saw a
request for nine clear Amphenol coil forms used in the HBR series. Many
years back I bought 21 of these forms thinking that I'd build the Crosby
receiver, but with advancing age, job constraints, job relocations, etc.
I just never got around to doing it. (And I was big time into building
stuff too)
To shorten this story, I probably have almost a complete set of HBR
parts, cabinet, chassis, tubes, Eddystone 898 dial, 21 coil forms,
Hammerlund capacitors for them, all the Miller IF and BFO transformers,
"S" meter, power supply parts, resistors, and maybe even all the fixed
capacitors - what have I left out?
Anyway, when I saw this guy's problem I let him know that I had the
Amphenol forms, but didn't want to break up the set in case someone else
was interested in building the HRB. I mentioned that I was intending to
put everything up on e-Bay and he would certainly be welcome to have
whatever might be left over from the e-Bay sale.
Now, he wants to build another receiver and wants the entire lot of
parts. He referred me to you to get some estimate of that it's worth as
I have absolutely no idea. I may can find what I paid for some of the
items, but it'd be a lot of work digging through old records. My memory
(and I'm now an octogenarian) says the Eddystone was about $20. But when
I queried another group about the Eddystone one guy told me he bought one
on e-Bay for $10 and another guy says that he sold one for $135! (What
is going on here?) I never went into ham radio to make money, but would
not like to give it all away - just so I can come out pretty even-steven.
If this is too much of an imposition for you two then I do apologize and
will look elsewhere - I can always put it up on e-Bay and just let the
chips fall where they may.
What a great hobby has been and what it has meant to me for well over 60
years I can never put into words.
Best 73,
Doc, W4ITJ
