[HBR] Rookie here

Hi Steve,

Another rookie here.

I started looking at HBR information about 6 months ago. It's interesting to
see how the different variations evolved.

For my first 'real' tube receiver I decided not to go the HBR route.
Instead, I made use of an old SSB 10.7MHz filter that I had in the junk box,
plus a couple of 10.7MHz IF transformers scavenged from a Heathkit AM/FM
tuner. I used a triode mixer (12AT7) and an interesting switchable detector
that I found in Amateur Radio Techniques. Some pictures and schematics:

I haven't "finished" this receiver I'd like to add an S-meter, and a 10.7MHz
xtal/mixer to the VFO so it will act as a transmitter VFO also.

My current receiver interest is the "SuperX" idea that can be found in many
ARRL Handbooks. This uses a 1700kc IF, so it can tube 40m and 80m without
bandswitching. A single xtal filter can be switched in. I had the great luck
to be given a chassis with much of this in place, am just waiting for some
peace and quiet post-Xmas :)

There must be an HBR lurking in my future, because I stumbled across a NOS
Miller 3-gang tuning capacitor a few weeks ago.
