You know - I'd forgotten about LORAN. It was the BPL of our time... at
least on 160! Yes, I have the standard config for my HBR-11... 1610 and 100
kcs... glad I had the HP-606A generator, as it goes down to 50kc... let me
peak that beggar right up. Matter-of-fact, it's SO hot, that I have to
drastically reduce the mixer gain; otherwise it overloads. That, and that
cool National ACN dial... well, it just LOOKS like it should work that good.
I purposely have NEVER calibrated the dial - I made graphs (somewhat like
the old National HRO graphs) that cover all the bands, so I know where I
am - it's kind of like possessing secret knowledge that mere mortals cannot
hope to aspire to... when I say "How about W1AW code practice?"... and run
it down to 17.5 on the dial which equates to 7.0475. Ahhh., now THAT's cool
in front of your friends.
