Dials - perhaps something akin to how one of the old National dials worked
(split friction wheel driving against bottom of round dial plate, driven by
1/4" shaft).

The National NCX-3 transceiver had a unique planetary-drive "transmission",
which then drove a 3-gear setup... very smooth and nice, if you can find a
basket-case.

I always thought a window, much like the early Hammarlunds or GPR-90 used,
would look terrific.
