Good observations, Kees. I too, recall the early days of QST... it seemed
that you did NOT want to put the magazine down, as each additional page held
some additional project, or simple circuit for improving one's "art". I
re-read the '60's issues, as I got my Novice in August of '62, thus these
are the influential ones in my journey through ham radio. Funny, in that
I'm STILL finding new stuff in those pages, that I never noticed.
Just this weekend, I repaired and realigned a friend's NC-183D National.
Having to use "Loop Adjustment" for the lower-end adjustment of each
band-coil was a pain, but it gave me appreciation for slug-tuning, and the
state of the art. still... those movable links NEVER MOVED in 51 years (the
inside of the bottom panel had grease-pencil showing 10/18/55), so how crude
was it? A minor tweak for age, and it was better than new.
I guess I'm a dated old beggar who STILL loves "Hints n' Kinks" best of
anything in the magazine... and always has.
