Unlike most of you guys, I don't have a garage full of command sets
to strip IF transformers from. So I'm looking at what I'd have to
do to make my own IF transformers from scratch.

On usenet I found a reference to

  http://geek.scorpiorising.ca/455KHz.html

and it seems perfectly practical to do this sort of thing. For 100kHz
or lower obviously I'd use bifiliar or more-filiar windings to keep
the Q high.

The universal windings ought to be straightforward - I recently built
a jig to let me re-wind burnt out RF chokes and while my setup is far
from "automatic" it works fine.

Combine with a couple small caps/trimmers and I think I can make
some nice little transformers I can put in a can.

Would the result be a complete basket-case or am I barking up the
right tree?

Finally found a real nice Millen dial drive and I just gotta build
me an HBR (well, HBR-alike.) Even though it'll take me years at
this rate!

Tim.
