I agree with all the commentary about the calibrator necessity....

One must consider however, that back in '64 and such... as a Novice, we were
xtal controlled, and if using some of the OLDER Texas xtals, or grinding
your own on a piece of glass with some Bon Ami... you needed to know where
the BOTTOM of YOUR band was... thus the calibrator.  7.100 was the bottom (I
think - can't recall if it was 7.150 or 7.100 now).

These daze [sic], we have receivers/transceivers that are more exactly on
freq. than those earlier frequency STANDARDS were.

My HBR-11 has a National ACN dial, and I never did mark it up... did
graph-paper charts for each band, and go roughly from them.  Once I sprayed
the coils with clear lacquer (holds the turns still, after adjustment),
they're always on calibration when I plug 'em in.

As my old original "Elmer" put it:  "Son, it don't have to be NBC"
